Europe has a proud farming history and we at the
European Commission are determined to keep it that
way. That is why I have taken personal control over
all matters relating to agriculture.
Firstly, regarding the recent health crisis, which have been of serious
concern within my department, I am pleased to say that I am now fully
recovered and my Doctors have stated that, (providing I keep taking my
medication), I can return to work and once again take full control over
issues of EU policy.
As far as continent-wide policy is concerned, what I
want to see is a Europe once again dominated by
farming, where every Nation State has the right to
engage in farming practices, (without putting fellow
EU farmers out of business), and produce as much food
as possible.
That is why I will ensure that unsubsidized,
productive, privately owned EU farms will help
struggling, inefficient fellow farmers in order to
make the industry fair.
As an example, a dairy farm that is profitable,
privately owned and does not claim government
financial support, will be forced to act in a
humanitarian way by either not producing quite as much
dairy produce, (or any at all), so as to allow a
struggling fellow farmer the chance to compete in the
market place. Or alternatively, hand over a percentage
of his earnings to my department so that I can
redistribute that money and artificially create
business for those farmers I consider in need.
I have chosen to ignore those who say that a system
like this sacrifices the competent farmers and
unfairly rewards the incompetent farmers, ultimately
resulting in economic turmoil. We EU Commissioners
always know best.
